ComSpark is committed to ensuring the future of our earth, making a pledge to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Fluorescent (fluoro) tubes and compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) are very common types of lighting, found in domestic and commercial sites. However, they contain mercury, a toxic metal that needs to be properly recycled and kept out of our environment. The amount of mercury in each tube or lamp may seem small, but the millions of lamps discarded each year make up the largest source of mercury going into Australian land fill.
ComSpark uses the services of CMA EcoCycle, the only nationally EPA approved & licensed mercury recycler and the biggest in Australasia. CMA don’t just recover mercury. Fluorescent tubes and lamps also contain glass, aluminium and other metals which are recycled into new products, reducing Australia’s overall lighting waste.
In the month of August, ComSpark recycled 128kg’s of Fluoro tubes, making our annual recycling of fluoro tubes around 1.54 tonnes per year. A sizeable amount to be kept out of landfill. CMA Ecocycle also recycles ComSpark’s old ballasts, lighting frames that hold the globes or tubes, and wiring.
